Eye floaters are cobweb like particles that float in your field of vision. These are quite common and should not be a cause of alarm. The eyes contain a clear gel like liquid known as the vitreous humor. However, as we become older, it degenerates. When we are young in age, the vitreous has a gel like consistency, but as we grow old, it becomes watery, especially in the central part of the eyeball.

A portion of the vitreous becomes more watery and some parts become more solid. The solidified particles can float around in the watery parts of the eye. Floaters have a tendency to go to the bottom part of the eyeballs and can blur the vision. They are generally more noticeable while looking at a computer screen or in bright light. You may not be able to see the floaters. However, they may cast shadows on the retina at the back of the eye.

Eye specialists generally prescribe eye drops that are formulated to get rid of the smudgy particles that float around in your eyes. This type of eye drops generally contains omega fatty acids. However, there are some natural treatments also that are effective in taking care of the issue.

Relaxation – After straining your eyes for a long time, it is important that you take a break. Keep your eyes closed for some time and let your muscles relax. Relaxing your eyes is one of the best ways to avoid eye floaters.

Massage – Place a cloth soaked in warm water over closed eyes. Massage your temple as you do this. This helps get rid of any stress in the eyes and helps to ward off eye floaters. You can also rub your palms together and place them on your eyes for a soothing effect.

Water – Eye floaters can also be due to the accumulation of toxins in the body. Drinking a lot of water helps to flush out these waste products.

Diet rich in antioxidants – Antioxidants help to improve vision by strengthening the retinal tissue and enhancing circulation. Some foods that contain plenty of antioxidants include strawberries, oranges, green leafy vegetables and kiwis.

Omega-3 fatty acids – Walnuts, wheat germ and fish contain plenty of omega-3 fatty acids and help to avoid the eye condition.

Rolling the eyes – Pull your head back and face the ceiling. In this position, roll your eyes in a clockwise motion. Repeat in anti-clockwise motion. For best results, re-do the exercise at least 10 times in both clockwise and anti-clockwise directions.

Focusing – Hold your finger or a pencil straight in front of your face. Gradually, move it close to your eyes till it is at least 6 inches away. Focus on it for a minute and then revert to original position. Repeat the exercise at least 10 times.

Sleep well – Often our eyes get stressed due to lack of proper sleep. It is therefore very important that you sleep for at least 6-8 hours a day to ensure that your eyes get good rest. Minimizing television and computer viewing can also help prevent eye floaters.

Drink organic supplements – You can avoid eye floaters by drinking different juice types including apples, carrots, parsnip, thyme, beets, raspberries and celery.

Bilberry – Bilberry is loaded with anti-oxidants and is therefore good for the eyes. It helps to enhance eye functionality and strengthens the retinal tissue.

Avoid coffee and alcohol – These two beverages may have a serious effect on the eyes. If you are an avid drinker, it is recommended that you avoid them to prevent eye floaters.

Follow these recommendations to cure your eye floaters completely.
